Future of Blogs

Just wondering...

recently one of my best online friends stopped blogging...

everywhere i look – mostly no or just a few replies...

yes, the really big sites get reactions – but even there, not that much.

Sure, it’s about me, about my interests, not that sexy: decency, responsibility for your own actions, future orientation, duty-boundness to Mother Nature, Earth and Humankind...

tough philosophy and tough insights in what will happen to us, to our children...

not funny...

not “sexy”...

getting no reactions, tiring for the bloggers until they give up?

Will this be the future of blogs? The same as in TV?

Just selling, some professionals and the rest – “Star Wars Kid”? Just the ones paid for – and the others looking for games and fun, not caring about anything but their own wishes, especially, when their real lifes get boring or is a mess?

Not until now, surely no...

but after a while?

Brave new world...

hi robert, glad to read you...

it's so "weird" without Thorn Tree...

until there is an absolute economic and social collapse here in the United States the brainwashing will not allow change.

yes, it seems, that my fears were right - that now, after the democrats won the Congress, people think, that all is fine again. They simply don't care about the fact, that the Neocons & friends still own the Media, the "oppinion-makers", that the Rich still rule the nation like an Aristocracy, not like a democracy...

but people like to be distracted...

bread and circuses

had to laugh reading that - because i wrote "Panes et Circenses" before i noticed that you had posted

because that seem to be the sad truth - people long for the "paradise", the time, when the "apple of knowledge" wasn't known - actually nothing else than the "paradise of being an animal" - the paradise of not having to see and understand and think:

"Many people would rather die than think; in fact, most do." - Bertrand Russell

It is a dark future in store for this nation. I only hope the rest of the world remains intact in the fall.

no, i fear, that's no longer possible. Humankind reached the Point of No Return - either we make it all together or we die together

"We must all hang together, or we shall surely all hang separately." - Ben Franklin

and "we" is nowadays not just a family, a tribe or a nation...

I would be knocking o your door and we could share some of that good, real German beer and some laughs

maybe you can manage it just for a holiday? But if you would try to come to Germany - i can help you. At the moment i try to "introduce" the girl-friend of my son into German laws and way of life, she came just a few days ago, got a job and now has to struggle with the German preciseness in everything - from the nearly not-delayed trains to the thousands of offices to the most important lesson: "never sign something without reading it, especially the fine print"...

You remain the most thoughtful and intelligent voice on the Web.

(blushing) thank you so much, but i fear once more, that i'm the blog-killer #1. I fear to have been at least part of the reasons for your retreat, i thought it even in times of Warblogging and now regarding the Last Chance Democracy Cafe...

i remember to have been accused once to "demand too much", that people don't like to think all the day about the problems of the future...

but what if this is the only way left to survive, the only way left to protect your children?

People say, they want "hope" - that's not true - they don't care about hope when hope means struggle and trouble and to fight for your children. They just want to be lulled to sleepy complacency like babies. They want to be animals, not humans - because animals don't have the responsibility for the own future - and responsibility needs insight and the strength to make decisions, therefore creating sorrow and guilt, if you decide something wrong...

and understanding of the world creates humility - if you understand the world you see how big it is and how small you are - and that creates fears. You know "The lesser the mind, the lesser the fear" (Soren Kierkegaard)

but what, if you know like i do - that we are on a point in evolution defined by physics to be a critical point - a point which decides if a species is wiped out or able to survive?

a point, when everyone who willingly ignore the signs on the wall - is a criminal and murder of the own children? Like so many Germans not only not caring about the millions of tortured and killed in their names - but sending their own childrens to die in a meaningless war...

now ALL the people of the world are in the same situation - close your eyes and don't care if your children will live or die - or fight against what has to come...

even WITHOUT hope - but when your child has to die of cancer - will you just give up because it would "bother" you to watch him/her die?

even WITHOUT hope you would try to do everything in your power to at least make life as easy as possible, won't you?

and the longer the masses don't care, the more WE, the few seeing, will be forced to do exactly that...

but i guess, that's what needs so much bravery, that most people - especially (!!!) the so-called "heroes", so used and bound to win that they can't bear the simple fact, that they are NOT Superman - can't stand it

My friends,
I feel so bad that you both should feel this dispair, when in fact, our optimism is most sorely needed...perhaps more than ever.

Sorry to be such a quiet voice as of late, I haven't gone away. I'm just busy, busy reloading, recharging, and formulating new connections and ways to attack our problems.

I believe it was telling when Time magazine chose "YOU" as person of the year. Let's face it, politicos will never fix our troubles. You cannot fix a problem with the same mentality that caused the problem in the first place. Sounds a bit cliche, but we are the only ones that can fix this thing. Something happened after 2004. I believe that what the blogging community accomplished was a monumental feat. Really, think about it! The problem is, how to mold and discipline such raw emotion and talent into something that can actually make the world a better place. I cannot pretend to have all the answers...yet, but it has not stopped me from trying and spending an horrific amount of energy studying the animal for the clues that deceive it.

hi jason, welcome here

Let's face it, politicos will never fix our troubles.

sooooo true!

yet, but it has not stopped me from trying and spending an horrific amount of energy studying the animal for the clues that deceive it.

thanks for that - and i guess, we all didn't stop to try, each in their own way

Robert tries to better the world by "investing" into the future of his son, i do it by teaching the power of physics..

and showing the worst cases which only can be avoided by respecting them

and you by teaching philosophy and the power of optimism (hope i'm right?)

but problem is - as you've said - our politicians (and industry bosses and religious "masterminds") - all our "Dear Leaders" will not fix our troubles

THEY are our trouble - they are the rejection of evolution, which moved into less dominant group organizations - they are the backslide into chimp-communities

and alas, chimps are too stupid to solve human problems...

so we have to get rid off our infantile lust for being slaves, being lead (and protected!!) by "Big Daddy"

and accept our duty to think, act and bear all the consequences on our own

but alas, like Prof. Lovelack, i guess, humankind is too weak for self-responsibility (s. Bertrand Russell)
